In Cross River State, a 29-year-old man has been taken into custody by the police on suspicion of ritually killing his mother.
SP Irene Ugbo, the state’s Police Command spokesperson, told reporters in Calabar on Friday that the suspect had been arrested and detained, but she did not provide any other information.
On December 25, 2024, the incident took place at Batriko, in the state’s Eastern Boki Local Government Area (LGA).
According to a reliable source, the arrest was made on Friday by the Obudu Council area’s security team and police jointly.
Security personnel had been pursuing the suspect since the event, and reports state that he had disposed of his mother’s body in a well in Obudu LGA.
According to the source, the suspect will be taken to the state command for more investigation after being apprehended with a native physician.
The guy was accused of shaving his deceased mother’s hair and then disposing of her body in a well.
According to the source, security personnel used a bag containing the shaved hair of the suspect’s late mother to apprehend the fugitive suspect at the shrine of a native physician.
The source claimed that the suspect and the local physician were currently relaxing at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters.

A Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a motion on notice seeking leave to appeal as an interested party in the suit filed by William Fialasoika and 24 others against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the party’s congresses in the state.
