Ngozi Igbonekwu, a 49-year-old housewife, was docked for collaborating with her son Chukwu to assault her husband Edwin Igbonekwu in Lagos.

On Friday, the mother and son showed up before the Lagos Ojo Magistrates’ Court.

They faced five charges before Magistrate Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, which included conspiracy, assault, creating a breach of peace, threatening life, and wilful damage.

However, they all entered not guilty pleas to every count.

The defendants committed the crime on January 18 at the Iyana Itire neighbourhood of Ajangbadi in Ojo, according to the prosecution, ASP Simon Uche, who testified in court.

He said that after a fight, the mother and her son planned to attack the complainant, Mr. Edwin Igbonekwu, (their husband and father respectively).

According to the allegations, the defendants forcefully threatened to kill the complainant, took down the building’s gate, and rained many blows on him.

By spilling mineral residue from a bottle on the complainant’s body, the prosecution further claimed that the two caused a breach of peace.

Sections 58, 168, 172, 350, and 411 of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law are violated by the offence.

The accused were each given N200,000 bail by the court, along with two sureties of the same amount.

The magistrate postponed the trial until February 19.
