‘I do not have cancer’ – Mercy Johnson clarifies

Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie has responded to public concerns about her health after a video of her discussing a past cancer scare began circulating widely online.

The clip, taken from an episode of her Mercy’s Menu TV show featuring fellow actress Joke Silva, showed Johnson-Okojie speaking about her health issues and noticeable weight loss. In the conversation, she revealed that she once faced a cancer scare and had undergone surgery to remove her thyroid.

However, some viewers misunderstood the situation, assuming she was currently battling cancer, and began flooding her with messages of prayers and support.

In response, the actress posted a video on her Instagram page to clear the air. She emphasized that she does not have cancer. According to her, a tumour was discovered on her thyroid, and although her doctors initially suspected it might be cancerous, further tests confirmed it was benign.

She said, “Thank you to all of you who have been calling and sending messages and prayers. I do appreciate it so much, but I do not have cancer.

“I noticed that a clip from my TV show, Mercy’s Menu has been flying around and I think it was cut, they cut the clip. I said I had a cancer scare. It means that I’ve this swelling on my neck, if you can see the line there, and my doctors felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid.

“I’m perfectly okay. Thank you so much for all of your calls and your messages. I’m perfectly fine and I do not have cancer.”
