I was forced to work at young age – Jarvis opens up

Nigerian TikTok personality and content creator, Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, widely recognized by her stage name Jarvis, has shared personal stories about the challenges she faced growing up.

Hailing from Edo State, she revealed that she had to take on work responsibilities at a very young age, describing the situation as one where she was “forced” into early labor.

Jarvis reflected on her past, explaining that she engaged in various low-paying jobs just to survive. She also recalled a traumatic experience where she was robbed while on the job.

According to her, going through such tough experiences early in life may have contributed to the difficulty she sometimes faces in connecting with her sense of femininity.

Speaking during a recent TikTok livestream, Jarvis said, “At a young age, I became a man. Maybe that is why it is so difficult for me to act like a lady. Because I was forced to be a man, I was forced to start doing things at an early age; working under people. I have suffered.

“I did salesgirl for several people. I’m sure my bosses will be happy seeing who I have turned out to be. There was a day my madam travelled and left the store in my care. I was desperate to please her by making good sales. But unfortunately, I was robbed that day. When she returned, she forgave me after the intervention of neighbours. She said she would deduct the money for the goods that were stolen from my salary. I can’t vividly recall whether she later left the money for me.

“But I love her. She was even consoling me not to cry too much over the incident. I was shocked she was angry with me. She only told me to be smart in case of next time. People would see and just have a natural sympathy for me. They would just love me naturally.”
