According to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, election tampering frequently starts even before voters cast their ballots. According to him, the process can be affected at every stage, from voter registration to political party registration. According to him, the placement of ballot boxes can also be utilized to prevent certain communities from ever having the opportunity to cast a valid ballot.

In a video posted by Symfoni TV, Obasanjo expressed his surprise at hearing from a British politician that there had been instances of dead individuals being counted as votes even in Britain.

Nigeria, according to Obasanjo, inherited the western liberal democracy system from nations such as Britain. According to him, African countries, including Nigeria, may need to reconsider their democratic practices if the same system continues to bring such problems in the nations that established it.

In Obasanjo’s words: “I was surprised when a British minister told me that even in Britain they find dead people voting. Those are the people from whom we inherited this western liberal democracy. If they are displeased with it, shouldn’t we rethink what we have inherited?
