“If God spares my life, IBB reveals what he will do about June 12 election

Vanguard claims that Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), the former military president, is getting ready to publish his much awaited book.

On February 20, a launch party for the memoir, A Journey in Service, will take place at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The launch will take place on the 32nd anniversary of Babangida’s depature from office.

Babangida’s position eight years ago, when he questioned whether Nigerians would find his book inspirational, has changed significantly with the publication.

During an interview with Channels Television, Babangida addressed misconceptions around his leadership, particularly on the June 12 crisis and his policies throughout his presidency, which lasted from 1985 to 1993.

Babangida remarked: “People might avoid reading the autobiography because it is written by a dictator. Many will label me a dictator and point to my cancellation of June 12, which could harm the book’s reception.”

He went on to say that he thought the public did not completely get the full narrative of the June 12 election.

“If God spares my life, I will discuss the June 12 election because I still believe people don’t get what we were trying to put across,” he said.

Babangida underlined that nobody has bothered to offer an alternative viewpoint on the June 12 issue.

He stated: “No one has ever attempted to discuss the relationship between the two individuals involved or what went wrong. We tried to explain the reasons behind our actions, but no one is willing to listen to our side.”

Babangida lamented the lack of investigation into his side of the story while considering his leadership and choices. He emphasised that his viewpoint on his presidency and the June 12 election had not been adequately considered.
