he decision by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to create an alliance ahead of the 2027 election has been characterized as surprising by Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Bode George claimed in an interview with Channels TV on Thursday that the two are siding with a party he called “a ship that is already sinking.”
He claimed that the crisis presently trembling the opposition party was exacerbated by Atiku and other PDP mainstays switching to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
He stated, “Those who created the PDP crisis are the ones leaving. We are holding our NEC meeting in the coming week and when we meet, we will discuss the programme of the party.
“We will approve all the committees that are going to handle the convention of the party.
“The fact that we are in a position to hold that meeting, you will see at the end that the Iroko tree has been resurrected.
“I am shocked that Obi, Atiku, and others are jumping into a ship that is already sinking.”
Citing the ongoing instability, Atiku formally left the PDP for the ADC on Wednesday.
