Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, a Nigerian Immigration Service employee, was found guilty of travel passport fraud by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The convict was arraigned by the ICPC before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, on four counts of cheating, giving corrupt advantage, and satisfying desires in violation of the current provisions of the Penal Code Act and the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.
During the trial, Dr Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, the ICPC’s counsel, testified in court about Adeyinka’s deception of Ovie Justice Ojeffia by pretending to regularise the latter’s international passport.
Adeyinka broke their promise after accepting N100,000 from Ojeffia to regularise the passport mentioned above.
After that, the victim filed a petition with the ICPC, which prompted an investigation and the convict’s court appearance.
Adeyinka was found guilty on all four counts by Justice Onwuegbuzie, who also handed down sentences of seven years for counts 1 and 2, five years for count 4, and two years for count 3.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
