INCREDIBLE: Donald Trump makes history as he becomes the first former US president to do this

Being the first former US president to face a criminal trial, Donald Trump made history.

On Monday, April 15, the Republican politician showed up at a Manhattan courtroom to begin his hush money trial.

Trump is accused of fabricating his company documents to cover up a hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels, a former adult film star just before the 2016 election.

The film actress received a $130,000 payment from Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, at the close of the 2016 election to prevent her from disclosing that she and the billionaire had an affair. This payment is the basis for the accusations brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. After that, Trump paid Cohen back in installments that the business had on file as legal fees.

If found guilty, Mr. Trump, 77, could spend a maximum of four years in prison; otherwise, he might only receive a fine.

The jury selection process, which could take up to two weeks due to the enormous pool of potential jurors already started.

This is the first criminal trial that a former president has been subject to.

Thirty-four accusations of falsifying business records are brought against Trump. He has pled not guilty to the charges, which he claims are politically motivated, and he has denied having had the affair.

In April of last year, he entered a not guilty plea to a 34-count indictment that accused him of fabricating company documents in relation to hush money payment.

The jury selection process may take up to two weeks, while the trial itself is anticipated to run between six and eight weeks.

A hearing on the prosecution’s plea to hold Trump in contempt for allegedly disobeying the judge’s restrictive gag order was scheduled by Judge Marchan. The hearing is scheduled on April 24th, Wednesday.

The judge set a deadline of April 19 for the Trump attorneys written response.
