The Independent National Electoral Commission has set the dates for the governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States as Saturday, August 8, 2026, and Saturday, July 20, 2026, respectively.
This was revealed on Friday by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu during the swearing-in of six recently appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners who had just received confirmation from the National Assembly.
According to him, holding elections in Nigeria is a difficult and holy duty.
“The conduct of elections is not only a huge responsibility but also a sacred duty.”
In order to fill open seats in the National and State Houses of Assembly, he continued, the commission is finalizing plans for bye-elections.
