After Yunusa Hudu Ari, the fired Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, made remarks on the 2023 governorship election, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) called for his immediate arrest and prosecution.

Bello Babajo, the Chairman of IPAC in Adamawa State, denounced Ari’s remarks as an effort to weaken Nigeria’s courts and democratic procedures during a press conference in Yola. Babajo called the former REC’s comments “deliberate and misleading” and demanded that anyone attempting to undermine the country’s electoral integrity face harsh consequences.

Despite the issue having been definitively resolved by the Supreme Court., Ari asserted in a widely reported news briefing on February 10 that Senator Aishatu Binani, not Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was the legitimate winner of the 2023 governorship election.

Ari allegedly attempted to mislead the public and cause uncertainty regarding the election results, according to IPAC, which accused him of disdain towards INEC and the judiciary. Babajo denounced Ari’s behavior, highlighting his attempt to sway the outcome and his subsequent avoidance of the law.

Babajo stated, “Instead of accepting the truth, Hudu Ari boldly displayed fabricated election results and insisted on pushing his misguided narrative,”

The council also emphasized the need of preserving Nigeria’s democratic institutions by pleading with the Inspector General of Police to quickly capture Ari and make sure he is held responsible for his acts.

IPAC reiterated its dedication to protecting Nigeria’s electoral system and making sure that the people’s will is upheld in all upcoming elections.
