According to the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Nnamdi Kanu’s Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) won’t win in a referendum intended to determine Biafra’s future.
The majority of Igbos, according to AYCF National President Yerima Shettima, would rather stay Nigerian citizens than break away to create the independent state of Biafra.
Shettima expressed her disapproval of the Biafra movement, claiming that it has been taken over by criminal elements.
He did concede, though, that there are Igbos who sincerely want justice, parity, and fairness.
According to Shettima, the key interests of the ordinary Igbo person are justice, equity, and fair play, and they want to stay in Nigeria.
He said, “As a Nigerian, I know that IPOB can’t win a referendum today because an average Igbo man wants to remain a Nigerian. All they are demanding is justice, equity, and fair play.”
Since his re-arrest in June 2021, IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention.
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu was detained and charged with offences that verged on treason.
He has been granted bail by court decisions, but the Nigerian government has refused to let him go.
Despite his imprisonment, Kanu has persisted in warning about killings and instability in the Southeast.
Nonetheless, the public response to the AYCF’s recent announcement has been divided, with many voicing their opinions in the comments area.
