According to Islamic cleric Shaykh Habibullah Al-Ilory, Nigeria’s authorities must prioritize justice, equity, and treating every citizen equally, irrespective of their socioeconomic status, religion, or tribe.

He maintained that everyone is a citizen, including Christians, Muslims, traditionalists, the wealthy, and the destitute, and that anyone appointed by God to a position of power immediately takes on duty for them.

In honor of Fadilat Sheikh Mah’ruf Al-Karazy, who died on November 9, 2025, Shaykh Al-Ilory revealed this on Sunday at a special prayer and lecture in Ado-Odo town, Ogun State.

The Islamic scholar, who also founded the Arabic and Islamic Training Center in Markaz, Agege, Lagos, argued that leadership should never discriminate, citing the foundation of justice and fairness in Islamic teachings and nation-building.

According to Shaykh Al-Ilory, who was represented by Sheikh Sulaiman As-Saruji, Nigeria can only advance if its leaders treat all of its population fairly and if its citizens behave well.

His words: “We must not fight each other. Muslims must not fight Christians, and Christians must not fight Muslims or traditional worshippers. We must live together in peace.”

He said that the late cleric led a life of peace and tolerance, traits that both leaders and followers should uphold, and he urged Nigerians to uphold moral values, obey the law, and support programs that promote religious unity.

Alhaji Soliu Ibrahim, the Chief Imam of Ado-Odo, urged politicians to create a better Nigeria for future generations in his speech, stressing the importance of offering high-quality education and supporting educators and Islamic scholars.

Speaking as well, HRM Oba Olusola Lamidi-Osolo, the Olofin of Ado-Odo, asked all the town’s sons and daughters to carry on the excellent legacy of the late imam, characterizing him as a man who put out much effort to improve the town’s reputation and advance Islam.

In order to be remembered, he counseled leaders to always have death in mind and work toward doing good deeds, saying: “Whatever has a beginning will surely have an end; our legacy is what people say about us after we are gone.”

Oba Luqman Kuoye, the Olu of Imasayi, urged patience and unity across the country, stating that Nigeria needs cooperation at this critical moment.

“Nigeria needs patience. The President is trying to uproot the economic problems and place the nation on a stable economic radar. By the time he completes his tenure, his reforms will stand strong for the future.”

The late cleric’s son, Sofiullah Sulaiman, also said how much he would miss his father’s advice and urged the government to seek advice from Islamic scholars in accordance with Qur’anic principles.
