The Israeli military has initiated an assault on Iran, and several explosions have been reported throughout Tehran.

According to a report from Al Jazeera, a US official told the outlet that the attacks were executed as a collaborative military operation involving both Israel and the United States.

According to Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency, multiple missiles struck University Street and the Jomhouri district in the heart of Tehran, producing plumes of smoke.

Additional explosions were also reported by the semiofficial Tasnim News Agency in the northern Seyyed Khandan district of the city.

Other Iranian media reported that strikes were also noted in various regions of the country, such as Ilam province in the west.

The operation was intended, as confirmed by US President Donald Trump, to “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”

“Short time ago, US military began major combat operation in Iran.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” Trump said.

Israel Katz, the Defence Minister of Israel, stated that the missile strikes were carried out to “remove threats to the State of Israel.”
