JAMB Records Over 420,000 Registrations for 2025/2026 UTME.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has registered a total of 420,674 candidates for the 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as of Monday afternoon. This was disclosed by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, after his monitoring visits to some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to Professor Oloyede, 32,435 candidates registered on Monday alone, while 124,632 candidates have enrolled for the mock exams, with 331 trial testing candidates so far. JAMB aims to register two million candidates for the exams.

However, Professor Oloyede expressed concern over the rising number of underaged registrants, which has already reached 4,997 within the first five days of registration. He criticised parents who push their children into early education as a status symbol, saying, “You can see how we’re deceiving ourselves in this country. Before, the maximum figure would be about 300. In a situation when we’ve just started in five days and we have a total number of 4996 underaged registrants. By the end of today, they will be more than 5000.

He further stated, “Many of these parents have misdirected their children. They want to use their children’s early education to decorate their CVs.” Despite this, underaged candidates are allowed to register, but they must sign an indemnity form or undertaking to meet academic standards or face consequences.

Additionally, six individuals engaged by JAMB from various institutions have been blacklisted for life due to alleged exam malpractice. Professor Oloyede revealed that one senior university official is being prosecuted for exam-related crimes, while others are under investigation.

On a positive note, Professor Oloyede commended JAMB staff, CBT centre operators, and security agencies for ensuring a smooth registration process. He expressed satisfaction with the exercise, saying, “The exercise was going excellently well in all centres. Going round, I’m very proud of those on the fields, CBT centres, my staff, and everyone involved. I think it’s better by far. People know we’ll not take anything less than standard, and they’ve done very well. We also thank security agencies. They’ve assisted us so well.
