Junior Pope: 11 things to know about late actor

During a movie shoot on Wednesday, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, a well-known Nollywood actor, drowned.

While returning from a film location, Junior Pope and three of his colleagues died in their boat, which overturned on the Anam River in Anambra State.

After being pulled out of the water, he spent some time recovering before tragically dying.

Emeka Rollas, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, announced his passing on Thursday and said that three more bodies have not yet been located.

Eleven things about Junior Pope are listed below.

1. Although Junior Pope was born in Cameroon on May 7, 1984, he moved to Nigeria at an early age.
2. He was a model and actor from Nigeria who specialised in playing characters such as hitmen, armed robbers, criminals, and villains.
3. He is from the town of Ukehe in Enugu State.
4. Since starting his acting career in 2006, Junior Pope has been in over 150 Nollywood films, including Bachelor Eve, Vengeance of Bullet, Bitter Generation, The Generals, Wrong Initiation, The Cat, Nkwocha, and Secret Adventure.
5. The actor received a degree in accounting from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Enugu State.
6. He married Jennifer Awele in 2014, and they are blessed with three children.
7. By faith, he was a Christian.
8. The actor posted a video of himself pleading for travel safety on April 9, 2024. Unfortunately, the mishap happened when they were travelling back the next day.
9. Ironically, he passed away while making the movie “The Other Side of Life”.
10. After being pulled out of the river and initially recovering, he tragically passed away.
11. After his passing, AGN proclaimed April 11 to be “No shooting day.” In addition, the Guild barred actors from participating in any movie made by Adanma Luke, the director of the disastrous film “The Other Side of Life,” and imposed an indefinite ban on shoots in riverine areas and boat riding.
