JUST IN: Christmas tree COLLAPSES, claims life

This is the horrifying scene where a huge 180-foot Christmas tree falls during a storm, killing one person and wounding two more.

Mounted in a lagoon close to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the strange floating construction crashed into the water yesterday afternoon.

The storm caused the enormous edifice to completely collapse.

The palm tree is seen swaying wildly in the video, which shows it propped up in the sea as the wind blows at a lethal speed.

The building abruptly begins to sag forward in front of the gloomy grey sky.

Workers may be seen in other videos diving into the water and attempting to swim away from the lethal tree.

However, the speed of its descent quickly increases, and the structure seems to fully disintegrate before crashing into the sea with a huge splash.

One person was killed and two others were injured in the Christmas tree tragedy.
Workers who had been working on the tree before its official Christmas opening were among the three people killed.

When it fell, they were sadly attempting to get to safety after authorities had given a dangerous weather signal.
Vinicius dosSantosAbreu, age 21, has been identified locally as the man who tragically passed away.

In Marica, a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, he was sent to Conde Modesto Leal Hospital, but upon arrival, he was tragically declared dead.

After being transported to another hospital, the two injured guys are reportedly “out of danger.”

Today, the police investigation into the tragedy was still ongoing.
One of Marica’s main tourist attractions, the 360,000 lights on the Christmas tree, was scheduled to be turned on during an official opening ceremony on Wednesday.

“Marica Town Hall deeply regrets the tragedy that occurred yesterday afternoon at Araçatiba Lagoon, where one person died and two were injured after the structure of the Christmas tree that was being assembled collapsed,” town hall authorities stated in a statement released tonight.

“The Town Hall is providing full support to the victims and their families, as well as investigating the causes of the accident.

“As soon as Civil Defence issued a warning of heavy rain at 3.45pm yesterday, the company hired to assemble the tree began to remove workers from the area.”

The statement explained that in the moment, “they were surprised by a storm, with strong winds and heavy rain, which brought down the structure in a few seconds.”

It added: “The victims were immediately rescued by emergency responders who included firefighters and medical staff.

“One of the employees was taken to the Conde Modesto Leal Municipal Hospital, where he was unable to overcome his injuries and was pronounced dead.

“The other two people, who were treated at the Doctor Ernesto Che Guevara Municipal Hospital, are out of danger.”
