One person has been killed and other villagers have been made homeless in Gurfata village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), due to a communal conflict between Fulani and Gwari residents.
At least 31 homes in the community were set on fire as a result of the Tuesday incident.
According to reports, it was brought on by a miscommunication regarding access via a farming path between a Fulani man named Shaibu Adamu and a Gwari farmer named Sa’adu.
Makama, a security analyst, posted information on the event on X on Wednesday.
He claims that when Adamu attempted to cross Sa’adu’s farmland, the altercation started. The farmer asked him to take a another route, but he refused. The two men argued and got into a physical altercation as a result.
“Things quickly got worse when Shaibu’s elder brother, Adamu Ibrahim, allegedly attacked a Gwari resident, Dahiru Yakubu, with a machete. Yakubu was rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he later died,” Makama wrote.
In response to the news of his passing, enraged Gwari teenagers rushed the village’s Fulani settlement, setting 31 houses on fire and leaving at least three people injured.
Later, soldiers and other security forces were sent to the region to put an end to the violence and stabilize the situation.
