Eight months pregnant, Tanyiah Bell, a 19-year-old African American woman from Philadelphia, was shot and killed by her lover.

Miracle, her baby girl, was born just minutes after the shooting and lived. The baby is still battling severe health problems today.

Tanyiah was shot inside her Lansdowne, Philadelphia, apartment on November 14, 2024. Tanyiah was taken to the hospital by paramedics, and within five minutes of their arrival, doctors gave birth to the baby. Before physicians discovered a heartbeat, Miracle, who weighed only 4 pounds, required 25 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

“When I first set eyes on her in the NICU, I just knew that she’s her miracle,” Tanyiah’s mother, Tylicia Bell, told 6 ABC. “I knew that God left me something because I lost my only child.”

Miracle’s lack of oxygen at birth caused a serious brain injury. She currently has a tracheostomy to aid with her breathing, cerebral palsy, and other health issues. Doctors claim her hearing and vision are unharmed, but she is unable to blink, smile, or react. Tylicia thinks the infant is still able to perceive and hear the love that surrounds her.

“She’s a true fighter,” said Tylicia. “Everything she’s been through, we’ve gotten through. She’s been fighting through it, and we’ve been right by her side every step of her way.”

Raising Miracle, according to Tylicia, is like raising her daughter again. The family needs house improvements, 247 care and medical equipment in order to bring the baby home soon. Since starting the GoFundMe, Tylicia has raised more than $10,000.

In the meantime, 19-year-old Kaiheem Williams, the man suspected of killing Tanyiah, is charged with attempted murder, murder, and other offenses. On July 22, he is expected to appear in court.
