A woman who left Cameroon on her own has disclosed her earnings.
The woman claims that before relocating to her home country, she spent more than 20 years in the United States.
The woman, named Amelie, described how she and her family were abruptly informed that they were not allowed to stay in the United States.
She stated: “The Trump administration was like we are gonna give you guys two months so you can prepare to leave. My issue is not that you are telling me I need to leave. I don’t care, I will leave, because honestly, it’s worth the headaches. My thing is that they did not give us the proper time to let us know that ‘we are cancelling’. They didn’t do that. I had actually ended up getting a new job, my highest paying job ever in LA. I was getting paid $60,000. That’s nothing, but it was something to me.”
In a series of videos that went viral on TikTok, she chronicled her adventure after relocating to Cameroon.
Amelie just posted a new video in which she claims that the US government has compensated her $1000 for her voluntary departure.
She said: “Yes, I got my cash. Yes, it took them forever. My ties to the US is officially severed…for now.”
According to the BBC, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the program to compensate anyone who self-deport on May 5.
The announcement says: “Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a historic opportunity for illegal aliens to receive both financial and travel assistance to facilitate travel back to their home country through the CBP Home App. Any illegal alien who uses the CBP Home App to self-deport will also receive a stipend of $1,000 dollars, paid after their return to their home country has been confirmed through the app.”
Self-deportation was characterized by the administration as a respectable method of departing the United States.
It says: “Self-deportation is a dignified way to leave the U.S. and will allow illegal aliens to avoid being encountered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Even with the cost of the stipend, it is projected that the use of CBP Home will decrease the costs of a deportation by around 70 percent. Currently the average cost to arrest, detain, and remove an illegal alien is $17,121.”
Lame was temporarily held by immigration officials after the US ICE claimed that he had broken the conditions of his visa.
However, Lame left the US willingly on June 6 after entering on a temporary visa on April 30.
