Before the July 12 local government elections, leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have called for the holding of a new chairperson primary.
The APC vehemently denounced the alleged selection of a candidate without following the proper procedures in a letter to Babatunde Ogala, the chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, calling it “undemocratic, provocative, and a direct affront to the will of the people.”
Representatives from the nine wards in Yaba LCDA joined forces to sign the petition: Domingo Babajide in Ward A, Kemi Aboyarin in Ward B, Adediran Olorunnimbe in Ward C, Taoreed Abiona in Ward D, Alani Ifatokun in Ward E, Oladunjoye Omoniyi in Ward F, Olaofe Fatai in Ward G, Idayat Abdul Rasaq in Ward H, and Shakiru Adebowale in Ward I.
The signatories, who identified themselves as the APC’s Apex Leadership in Yaba, cautioned that any attempt to force a candidate might undermine party cohesion, spark internal strife, and harm the party’s reputation and chances of winning seats in the LCDA.
They urged the party’s leadership to take immediate action to prevent what they called “an external imposition,” warning that ignoring the problem might have long-term effects for the party’s cohesiveness and success in upcoming elections.
