Barcelona icon Rivaldo has expressed disappointment over the controversy involving rising star Lamine Yamal, describing the situation as both “annoying and sad.”
The comments came in response to backlash surrounding Yamal’s recent 18th birthday celebration, which reportedly featured entertainers with dwarfism a move that drew sharp criticism online.
According to the BBC, a formal complaint was filed against the player by the Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain, prompting public debate.
Reacting to the incident, Rivaldo urged the young forward to stay focused on his football career and avoid distractions.
“So, hopefully there won’t be any more rumours, because that’s annoying, it’s sad,” the legendary Brazilian said, as quoted by Barca Universal.
He advised Yamal to remain mindful of his achievements so far and use that as motivation to avoid similar controversies in the future.
Yamal, who played a crucial role in Barcelona’s domestic treble last season, is considered a leading contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. At just 16, he has already established himself as a key figure for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
