LASG awards ₦75 million grants to Entrepreneurs to support Research and innovation.

The Lagos State government, through the Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC), has awarded nearly ₦75 million in grants to support research, innovative projects, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) initiatives. The grants aim to foster a knowledge-driven economy, strengthen technological advancement, and empower start-ups, entrepreneurs, and researchers across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said, “The programme aligns with the government’s broader strategy to build a modern, inclusive and resilient economy driven by creativity and knowledge.” He noted that LASRIC was established to transform Lagos into a knowledge-based economy and has become a source of hope and support for young innovators and entrepreneurs

The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Tunbosun Alake, emphasised that entrepreneurship, innovation, and R&D are central to Lagos’ development agenda. “We commend the awardees for their creativity and urge them to sustain their contributions to societal growth,” he said.

The awardees, including Prof. Akintayo Ogundajo, Dr. Metilelu Olusola, Blessing Aniefiok, and Ajayi Oluwafemi, expressed their appreciation and promised to deploy the grants effectively, delivering solutions that will impact Lagos residents and contribute to national development.

The Chairman of LASRIC, Prof. Olumiyiwa Odusanya, praised the ingenuity of the awardees and pledged the council’s continued support in building Lagos into a leading technology and innovation hub in Africa. This initiative reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem that empowers businesses, drives job creation, and secures its place as Nigeria’s foremost tech and research hub
