The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) has announced a transformative $3.5 million endowed estate gift from Kent Whittaker and his family to support it’s School of Law. This generous donation is the largest in the law school’s history and will fund student scholarships, law school building maintenance, and areas of greatest need.
The gift is a testament to the Whittaker family’s commitment to education and community support. Kent Whittaker’s father, Charles Whittaker, was a UMKC School of Law alumnus and served as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice, while his late wife, Judy, was a distinguished alumna and valedictorian of her class.
Kent Whittaker shared the family’s philanthropic vision, saying, “We decided halfway through our working years that if we were able, we wanted to dedicate part of our estate to making a difference in the community. We want to help reduce human suffering and support education, and that’s what we’re doing with this gift.”
This remarkable gift will have a lasting impact on the UMKC School of Law, enabling students to pursue their academic and professional goals
