Renowned elder statesman and one of Nigeria’s remaining First Republic senators, Senator Suemo Chia, has made a sincere public plea to meet with Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia in order to give his advice before he passes away.
The heartfelt plea was made at a Thanksgiving mass celebrating the second anniversary of Governor Alia’s administration, which was celebrated at NKST Church, High Level, Makurdi.
Now in his 80s, Senator Chia was observed sitting calmly at the church door, awaiting a chance to meet with the governor.
But he was unable to enter due to security measures and the large number of worshippers and sympathizers.
“I cannot see well again,” he said in a frail but determined voice. “I have come to see Alia. I saw him once, and when I tried to see him at the Government House, they blocked me, as if I was looking for a political appointment.”
The senior statesman, who has advised a number of former Benue State governors over the years, emphasized that his goal was deeply personal and motivated by responsibility rather than politics.
“I want to offer my advice to him before I die,” he declared
