The Lagos State Government has announced financial assistance to 15 registered homes and cluster heads affiliated with the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA). The initiative aims to support the day-to-day operations and management of these organisations.
The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, presented cheques of N500,000 and above to the benefiting homes at Alausa, Ikeja. According to Oyetunde-Lawal, “The initiative is a yearly gesture by the government as a way of providing seed funding for the beneficiaries to achieve financial independence, cope with daily challenges, and improve their quality of life.
She emphasised the state’s commitment to social cohesion, stating, “It is part of Lagos State Government’s commitment to social cohesion, ensuring that all citizens, including people with disabilities, have access to opportunities and support.” Oyetunde-Lawal also highlighted LASODA’s growth, noting that the office currently has 100 registered associations and continues to expand its reach across the state.
The beneficiaries include prominent organisations such as the Lagos State Association of the Deaf, Albinism Association of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Association of the Blind, among others. This financial assistance is expected to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and promote inclusivity in the state.
