Man arrested for stealing neighbours three children in Anambra

Youths from Awka village in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State have arrested a man named Chiemerie Onuigbo for snatching three of his neighbor’s children.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday night while the children’s mother was feeding them.

When the mother returned to address the children’s absence, she had gone inside to serve them more food, according to a press statement issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command.

Ikenga said: “In the evening of 23rd September, 2025 through the assistance of the youths of Akwa Village, Ihiala arrested one male suspect, Charles Chiemerie Onuigbo over an alleged case of abduction of three children between the ages of 6, 3, and 2 years respectively.

“Preliminary information reveals that Charles and two others who are currently at large conspired and abducted the three children.

“Further revelations from the mother of the victims stated that while her children were eating in front of their house, she went into the kitchen to get them more food but returned to find them missing.”

He said that the two fugitive accomplices, whose identities are still unknown, had been harbored by the apprehended suspect, who happens to be the woman’s neighbor.

However, Onuigbo was taken into custody and assaulted by young people from the neighborhood, who beat him till he was hurt. The police eventually came to his aid.

The command stated that desperate attempts were being made to save the children and bring them back to their mother, but the children had not yet been freed from the escaping suspects.
