Man killed, hand cut off as rival cults clash in Ogun

A middle-aged guy named Mosquito was killed by a machete and gunshot wound at Ijagun, in the Ijebu Ode region of Ogun State, by suspected cultists.

The dead, who was recognized as an Aye fraternity member, was discovered unconscious in a pool of blood, lacking his left hand.

The Ogun State Police Command made this information public in a statement on Monday.

Six spent cartridges were discovered when Command personnel arrived at the area after receiving a distress call, the statement claims.

The statement reads: “A concerned citizen through a phone call at about 2340hrs of 11th August 2024 reported that cultists were involved in a confrontation along Ijagun Road, in Ijebu Ode Ogun State.

“Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer quickly dispatched a team of officers to the scene.

“On arrival, and after a careful examination, the Divisional Police Officer discovered the body of an unidentified middle-aged man with machete wounds and gunshot injuries.

“Additionally, it was noticed that his left hand had been severed, removed and taken away. It was later discovered that the deceased, also known as ‘Mosquito’, was identified as a member of the Aye confraternity. Six expended cartridges were found at the scene.”

The statement further said that the deceased’s body was removed and taken to Ijebu Ode State Hospital, where he was declared deceased.

According to ZINGTIE, three similar killings have been recorded in the state in recent times.
