Man killed in mob attack over alleged witchcraft in Zamfara

In Gidan Katakare, Zamfara State, a man named Sharahu Haruna was slain in a mob attack after his relative was accused of witchcraft.

Community members accused Haruna Lawali of bewitching a woman, Nafisa Masa’udu, which led to the sad event that happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Information gathered by security analyst Zagazola Makama claims that the irate crowd broke into Lawali’s home and demanded explanations for the purported spiritual assault. A Dane gun was shot during the ensuing altercation as tensions swiftly increased, and Sharahu Haruna was unintentionally killed.

According to sources, Birnin Magaji Division police were notified and quickly showed up on the site. In accordance with Islamic tradition, officers released Haruna’s remains to his family for burial after documenting the incident.

Since then, law enforcement officials have begun looking into the event. “The role of the community in the attack is under scrutiny,” a source familiar with the matter told Zagazola.
