In Kalgo, Jega, and Aliero Local Government Areas, prominent PDP leaders and their followers joined the ruling party on Thursday, welcomed by Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris.

Hundreds of his followers were led by Alhaji Umar Namashaya Diggi into the APC in Kalgo LGA. In Jega LGA, thousands of PDP supporters defected together with former Commissioner of Works Alhaji Atiku Bunu. Alhaji Abubakar Abba Alieru, the younger brother of Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru, and Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru, the former Commissioner for Education, both joined the APC in Aliero LGA and have a sizable following.

The spokesperson for Governor Nasir Idris, Yahya Sarki, made this announcement.

Alhaji Atiku Bunu, speaking on behalf of the Jega defectors, attributed their choice to join the APC to Governor Idris’ exceptional accomplishments and dedication to development. In order to avoid interfering with the academic schedule, he also urged the College of Health Technology, Jega, to reopen immediately.

In response to the plea, Governor Idris emphasised his administration’s commitment to improving education in the state by ordering the Ministry of Higher Education to promptly reopen the college. “I am committed to ensuring the growth and development of our state, particularly in the education sector,” he said.

The governor’s education-related projects in Jega LGA, such as building and renovating classrooms, supplying school supplies, installing boreholes, and fencing schools, were highlighted by Professor Khalid Suleiman Jega, Chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), during the event.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors in Aliero LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru commended Governor Idris for his commitment to governance and enhancing the quality of life for Kebbi citizens. “Our return to the APC is not for personal gain but to contribute to the development of the state under your exemplary leadership,” he said, assuring the governor of their allegiance. Additionally, he alluded to Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru’s impending APC membership.

Alhaji Malami Gwandu, Chairman of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons Living with Disability, gave Governor Idris a Merit Award in appreciation of his support for people with disabilities, calling him a “Pillar of Care for Persons.”
