Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, officially welcomed defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The reception took place on Friday at the Government House in Kano, where influential politicians and their followers from Dawakin Tofa constituency pledged their allegiance to the NNPP.
This development was confirmed in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf remarked that the defections reflected the positive impact of his administration’s policies and initiatives over the past two years.
He recalled his 2023 campaign tour, during which he visited all 44 local government areas, including Dawakin Tofa, promising to extend the benefits of democracy across the state.
“Dawakin Tofa is a key local government in our efforts, and I am extremely pleased with this significant defection from the APC to the NNPP,” he stated.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the NNPP’s National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who also welcomed the development with enthusiasm.
Among the accomplishments highlighted in Dawakin Tofa were the completion of a five-kilometer road that had been left unfinished by the previous administration and a pledge to establish a new school in the area.
Yusuf assured the new members of their full integration into the party without discrimination, cautioned against intimidation, and committed to delivering further democratic dividends.
He also announced plans for a familiarization tour ahead of the 2027 general elections. Additionally, he revealed intentions to transform the Dawanau International Market into an agency led by a Managing Director and board to improve management.
The Governor praised the Local Government Chairman for internally generating N500 million for local projects and pledged to address any concerns raised.
Hon. Anas Danmaliki, Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Council, commended the Governor for completing projects in 15 primary schools and sponsoring over 1,000 tertiary students.
NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the new defectors and expressed confidence that Dawakin Tofa would surpass previous electoral successes.
Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Speaker, NNPP leader in Dawakin Tofa and Special Adviser on Publicity, noted that some defectors joined willingly and urged the government to complete ongoing projects in Dawanau and Tumfafi wards.
Representatives of the defectors including Hon. Nura Tumfafi, Hon. Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, Alhaji Umar Ismail, Alhaji Abba Muntari, Sani Shafiu, Hussaini Adamu, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayuba, Magaji Ruba-Ruba, Sabo Adamu, and Abdullahi Sale Turaki commended Governor Yusuf’s significant progress in health, education, civil service, pensions, and human capital development.
