Finally, Neymar Jr. has disclosed his reasons for leaving Barcelona during the 2017–18 season.

There has long been conjecture around the Brazilian’s move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar did, however, disclose the real reasons for his departure from the Catalan team in a recent interview with Brazilian football legend Romario.

In the 2013–14 season, Neymar left Santos FC, a Brazilian team, to join Barcelona. He became a part of the historic $90 million move.

During his tenure with the team, the forward developed into one of the world’s top players.

The Brazilian surprised supporters by revealing he was leaving for PSG after four successful years with the Catalan team, prompting many to speculate about his reasons.

“I didn’t leave Barça to be the best in the world at PSG,” he told Romario.

“Messi told me: why are you leaving? Do you want to be the best player in the world? I can make you the best player in the world.

“I told him no. It’s not that. It’s something personal. Obviously financially, it was better than what I had at Barcelona… and there were Brazilians there too.

“I wanted to play with the Brazilians. There was Thiago Silva, Dani Alves just signed, Marquinhos, Lucas Moura. They were all my friends.”
