The Nigeria Labour Congress, or NLC, has reaffirmed that all states still have till December 1 to enact the new minimum wage.

According to the ZINGTIE, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law on July 29, 2024.

The law raised the minimum salary in the nation from N30,000 to N70,000.

On November 11, NLC also declared that all state governments had till November 30 to start implementing the new minimum wage for its employees.

After the deadline, the union ordered its members to go on an indefinite strike in places where the new minimum wage has not yet been enacted.

Nonetheless, a number of states have ratified the new minimum wage plan, and more than 30 governors have committed to setting the lowest monthly compensation for employees at N70,000 or more.

Several regions, including Zamfara, Sokoto, Cross Rivers, and Nasarawa, have yet to agree on better worker compensation.

Speaking about the deadline, NLC spokesman Benson Upah stated that although most states have implemented the new minimum wage, nothing has changed in accordance with the instruction.

“Majority is not everybody. All states must heed the union’s directive or we’ll carry out our threats,” he said.
