Mobs have burned to death Uromchi Okorocha, a native of Enohia Itim village in the Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, for allegedly engaging in witchcraft.

According to ZINGTIE, Okorocha was accused by local teenagers of being responsible for the deaths of multiple people through purported witchcraft and spiritual means before to his tragic demise.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the dead was captured by the suspects after they mobilised, “but instead of handing him over to the authorities and committing to the rule of law, they decided to take laws into their hands, becoming judge, jury and executioner”.

According to Adejobi, the Uwanna Division’s police officers dispatched tactical teams to the location on a rescue operation after receiving a distress call on January 3rd, “but the angry mob had already killed and burned Mr Okorocha before the arrival of the Police team.”

According to him, 17 suspects have already been arrested in relation to the tragic incident.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemns this act of jungle justice in totality.“

“Citizens are once again urged to refrain from taking laws into their hands and report any suspected criminal activities to the nearest police division or formation around them for necessary action”, the statement added.
