Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, has been served with a public summons by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama.

Bello was facing a new 16-count indictment, and the court ordered him to appear in court and answer to them.

According to the summons, Bello and the other two defendants are scheduled to appear in court on October 24 for their arraignments.

The order for public summons was given by Justice Maryanne Anenih on Thursday, the day after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, filed an application.

The EFCC was directed by Justice Anenih to issue the public summons in a newspaper that is widely read.

Additionally, she gave the EFCC instructions to post copies of the public summons in prominent locations within the courthouse and on Bello’s last known home.

With regard to the September 24 allegation of criminal breach of trust, which carries a N110.4 billion fine against the former governor and two other individuals, the EFCC had stated that it was unable to serve Bello.

The other two accused parties in the case are Abdulsalami Hudu and Umar Oricha.

The Thursday arraignment was postponed due to Bello’s absence.
