The South-South Zonal Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party chose caretaker committee members for the party in the state, which caused more problems for the Edo State chapter.
According to ZINGTIE, caretaker committee members for Edo and Bayelsa States were nominated on Tuesday by the Zonal Working Committee faction led by Chief Dan Orbih.
According to a press release that ZINGTIE saw on social media and signed by Prince Etim Isong, Zonal Publicity Secretary, the decision was made during its regular meeting, which was held at its Zonal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
According to the April 22, 2025, announcement titled “PDP Appoints Caretaker Committee for Bayelsa and Edo States,” the committee members have three months to supervise the party’s operations in the two states.
Isong listed the names of the Edo State caretaker committee members: Richard Ehimigbai, vice chairman of Edo North; Hillary Otsu, secretary of Nosa Iseleomon, vice chairman of Edo South; Ehisota Oriakhi, vice chairman of Edo Central; and Hon. Nosa Ogieva, chairman; and Chief Sunny Okomayin, deputy chairman.
Women’s leader Mrs. Tes Sorae, Treasurer Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye, Auditor Emma Akaba, Organizing Secretary David Okojie, Publicity Secretary Bob-manuel Umoru, Legal Advisor William Umoru, Financial Secretary Moses Izobo, and Youth Leader David Oreye are also appointed.
According to him, the decision to form the caretaker committee came after the state working committees in both states were dissolved due to a number of gross misdeeds committed by the dissolved executives.
He said that the executives were fired due to the party’s constitution being broken, the party’s dismal showing in the most recent Edo State gubernatorial election, and the way the party handled the internal conflict that was causing the party to falter in both states.
“The Zonal Working Committee took these decisions in the best interest of the party after a careful review of the activities of the party in both states in line with the constitution of the party as amended in 2017, particularly Articles 10 (1),(f),(g), (k), and (4) as well as Articles 26(2),(a), 27 (2)(a & b), 58 (1), (a), (c), (I), and 59 (1) (f)”, he said.
According to Isong, the zonal working committee’s audacious decision to appoint a caretaker committee for the state to strengthens the party’s base and guarantees strong leadership in both states.
As he urged the recently chosen party officials to cultivate the unity required to reposition the party for future political success in both states, he stated that the party’s zonal chairman also underlined the significance of discipline and unity inside the party.
ZINGTIE recalls that on November 8, 2024, Godwin Obaseki, the state’s immediate past governor, established a ten-member caretaker committee for the party in the state.
The former governor Obaseki inaugurated the following: Fidel Igenegbale, Chris Nehikhare, Tony Anenih (Jr.), organizing secretary, Archbishop Anthony Okosun, Segun Saiki, Adezat Ibrahim, Augustine Edosomwan, woman leader, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi as chairman, Harrison Omagbon as deputy chairman, and Tenebe as secretary.
According to Obaseki, the committee’s inauguration was compliant with Section 29 (2Xb) of the party’s 2017 amended Constitution.
