Mother abandons her 2-year-old daughter with street vendors to go negotiate bride price with her new boyfriend

In South Africa, authorities are looking for a mother who left her 2-year-old to negotiate a bride price with her new partner.

On Friday, August 1, the mother, who went by the name Sne, left the child with two street sellers in Verulam CBD, KwaZulu-Natal, according to a statement released by Reaction Unit South Africa on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The statement claims that she informed the vendors that she would be returning late to pick up her child and that she was traveling to Hluhluwe in Northern KZN with her new lover to negotiate a lobola (bride price).

Since then, the woman has turned off her phone, and attempts to reach her have been unsuccessful.
