MS-13 leader arrested in Mexico moved to US

The extradition of Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales, a prominent MS-13 gang commander, has been announced by the FBI.

Roman-Bardales, a 47-year-old Salvadoran national who was on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list, was taken into custody by the Mexican government.

When authorities learned that the fugitive was in the region, they dispatched law enforcement personnel to Baxtla, Mexico.

Roman-Bardales has been taken to the United States “where he will face American justice,” according to FBI Director Kash Patel.

“This is a major victory both for our law enforcement partners and for a safer America,” Patel wrote in a post on X.

In 2022, Roman-Bardales, also known as El Veteran, was indicted on multiple crimes and a federal arrest warrant was issued for him in a New York court.

He is accused of distributing drugs, engaging in extortion schemes in El Salvador and the United States, and committing violent crimes against citizens and other gang members.

Roman-Bardales is also charged with conspiracy to supply terrorists with resources, conspiracy to narco-terrorism, conspiracy to racketeer, and conspiracy to smuggle aliens.

President Donald Trump recently ordered the United States to classify MS-13 as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
