MTN has taken a significant step in promoting digital literacy and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) among students. As part of its 2025 Y’ello Connect initiative, the company trained students of St Augustine College of Education in Lagos on the responsible use of AI.
MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mrs Onyinye Ikenya-Emeka, emphasised the importance of digital literacy, stating, “The whole idea is to drive for digital literacy… and create awareness of the need for understanding around new initiatives in the digital space, such as AI and machine learning.”
The training aimed to equip students with the knowledge to use AI productively and ethically and to prepare them for the evolving digital landscape. Mrs Ugochi Agoreyo from Google Search encouraged students to use AI to improve their learning experience and to customize their learning path
The Provost of St. Augustine College of Education, Rev. Fr. (Dr) Vincent Olofinkua, expressed gratitude for MTN’s generous gesture, saying, “By equipping our students and faculty with insights into this transformative technology, MTN is investing not only in infrastructure but in minds.”
As part of the initiative, MTN donated ICT equipment, including laptops, desktops, and a 5G router, to the school. This effort demonstrates MTN’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and preparing the next generation for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
