MTN shuts down service centres in Nigeria amid outrage

In response to consumer outcry over the Simple Identification Module disconnection, Nigeria’s largest telecom company, MTN, declared on Tuesday that all of its stores and service centres would be closed nationwide.

This was revealed by MTN on Tuesday through a notification posted on its official X account.

The business invited clients to check out its round-the-clock digital platforms.

Following the network provider’s Sunday blocking of some of its subscribers’ lines, which infuriated them, the shutdown occurred.

A mob is seen demolishing a barricade fence right outside the MTN office, according to a viral video that went popular on social media on Monday.

The video showed a sizable gathering of angry sunscribers damaging the telecom provider’s office in Lagos State’s FESTAC Town area after the network blocked users due to differences in their SIM registration and National Identification Number.

Concurrently, all mobile network operators were ordered by the Nigerian Communications Commission on Monday to revive disconnected telecom customers.

As observed by ZINGTIE, MNOs, including MTN, have begun reactivating affected customers in order to comply with the NCC’s directive.
