Born in Narok, Grace lost her father when she was six years old. Later, her mother moved the family to Karagita, a low-income neighborhood in Naivasha, where her alcoholism made it difficult for her to support her kids. Grace, the eldest of her siblings, took on the task of caring for them and sustaining the family at a young age. She eventually obtained work as a house helper in Naivasha town.
According to Grace, shortly after starting her job, a domestic disagreement at her office led to a hostile environment. One evening, after her employer’s family had left the house, she claimed that she was subjected to abuse by her male boss.
The next day, traumatized, she left the house right away and called the police to report what had happened. But according to reports, the man had vanished by the time she got back.
Grace claims that in order to aid in her recovery, she is seeking professional counseling as she still struggles with the experience’s emotional effects. She also asks male employers to respect the boundaries and rights of domestic workers, underlining that violence in the workplace is unacceptable.
