According to Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, his homes in Aba and Port Harcourt were razed to make room for new highways.
After encountering opposition from certain property owners during the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project’s construction, Umahi made the assertion.
According to the former governor of Ebonyi State, various road developments in the nation have resulted in the demolition of his houses.
He made this statement on Sunday at a meeting with the owners of homes impacted by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project in Lagos State’s Victoria Island neighbourhood.
The Minister begged land and property owners to cooperate, “we will obey. But please, let nobody take laws into his or her hands.”
“I plead with you if you are offended by me or the ministry, please accept our apology. The coastal highway must be on land and where there are issues like cables, we will do a flyover or refinery, we will do a flyover.
“In Port Harcourt, my property was also involved in the construction of East-West Road, totally demolished. In Aba, my property was also involved.
“Please, bear with me and know that we have nothing to benefit or hide.”
According to ZINGTIE, the project has drawn plenty of harsh criticism from numerous Nigerians, leading to the demolition of some buildings.
