Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has clarified that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other legislators for a project commissioning in Kogi State was consistent with legislative procedures.

The senator had on Thursday invited Akpabio and fellow lawmakers to attend the commissioning of projects in her constituency, just two months after she was reinstated from suspension.

As she marked her second anniversary in office this week, Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that she adhered to the appropriate parliamentary process by forwarding her invitation through the presiding officer, in line with Senate traditions, and requested that it be read during plenary.

“Today, as is customary for announcements of such nature, I wrote a letter to the Senate through the presiding officer to the Senate President to read on the floor,” she said in a statement.

“I put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures.”

The lawmaker emphasized that her approach reflected respect for due process and institutional order, noting that the celebration of her accomplishments and project inaugurations was focused on public service rather than self-promotion.
