For 32-year-old Wisdom Amedu, a farmer, writer, and now a survivor of a violent kidnapping operation that has left him with permanent emotional and physical wounds, what started out as a calm night in a tranquil hamlet in Edo State swiftly transformed into a horrific nightmare, according to a NewsVista reporter.

Amedu described how a gang of armed men broke into his home in the dark, speaking from a position of extreme trauma. What caught their attention? an installation of solar power.

“They saw my solar panel, and that was what caught their attention, they assumed—wrongly—that I had money. That was why they broke into my apartment.” he explained

The tone for what would turn out to be an absolutely terrifying night was established by the fact that the invaders had already killed one of his dogs before breaking in. His pregnant wife was especially frightened by the violence and threats they unleashed inside.

Amedu stated that one of the attackers made a terrifying threat to rip the unborn kid out of her womb, which further exacerbated the already violent scenario by causing psychological torment.

Amedu added that the offenders’ hearts were not softened by his claim to be a humble farmer. Rather, they became violent out of their annoyance and assaulted him with machetes while questioning him about other people in the residence. Threats intensified until the frightened man was compelled to come out of hiding after they learned that his driver was hiding.

Amedu, his wife, and the driver were blindfolded and bound before being hauled far into the woods with no mercy. He saw one of the abductors there wearing what appeared to be a Nigerian Army uniform, which is a troubling detail that begs the issue of whether real military men were involved or if the clothing was just an intimidation technique.

Amedu suffered more beatings while in captivity, and the family was under pressure to raise ransom money.

Based on Amedu’s account, the Edo State Police Command has already begun looking into the event, specifically examining any potential connections to a military officer.

This terrible event brings to light an increasing issue in rural areas, where even small upgrades, like installing solar panels, can draw unwelcome attention.
