My wife being igbo won’t deter me from ruling Ondo – Oke tells opponents

Olusola Oke, a governorship aspirant running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the next Ondo State governorship election, has hit out at people who are exploiting his marriage to an Igbo woman as a ploy to thwart his political ambition.

According to Oke, such divisive attempts must not affect his supporters or the people of the state, adding that they are merely a ruse to divert his attention from running the state.

In advance of the party’s primaries on April 25, the governorship aspirant made this declaration while pleading for the backing of APC members and leaders in Igbara-Oke, the state’s headquarters for the Ifedore Local Council Government Area.

Since the demise of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, there has been a controversy concerning the spouses of aspirants’ active participation in state governance and whether they should sue.

He insisted it was not a sin for a man to marry outside his ethnic group and spoke highly of his Igbo wife, Nkem. He also pointed out that his political opponents pretend not to know his Yoruba wife of more than four decades, Dr. Daisi, to score what he calls “cheap political points.”

He urged his supporters to stick by him in his candidature because of his experience and vision for the state, emphasizing that his marriage to an Igbo woman should not be used as a political tool.

In addition to stressing that, should he become governor, his marriage to an Igbo will not impact the government, Oke asserted that he maintains strict control over his household.

Instead of indulging in character assassination or exploiting ethnic tensions, the governorship aspirant emphasized the importance of focusing on governance and development problems.

“Don’t vote for a stranger as governor. I have been part of your challenges and seek to be part of the solution.”
