On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Lagos postponed further proceedings till June 25 in order to discuss a matter involving celebrity barman Pascal Okechukwu, also known as the Cuban Chief Priest, and his alleged misuse of Naira.
On April 17, Okechukwu was charged with three counts of allegedly spraying and tampering with Naira notes during a social event at the Eko hotel in Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was given N10 million in bail after entering a not guilty plea to the allegations.
The defence attorney, Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), told the court on the most recent postponement date on May 2 that the parties were considering a settlement and that they had requested that the case be resolved in accordance with Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.
After the position, defence attorneys requested that the preliminary objection be withdrawn, and the court granted their request because the prosecution had not objected.
As a result, the court postponed the case until today, June 5, in order to receive a report on the settlement.
On Wednesday, however, reporters learned that the defence had sent a letter requesting a postponement of the trial.
The case will now be mentioned on June 25.
According to the indictment, the defendant danced at the social gathering at the Eko Hotel and tampered with N500 worth of cash.
The Central Bank Act of 2007’s section 21(1) is broken by the offence.
