Ndume rejects chairmanship of Senate Committee on Tourism, kicks against removal as Chief Whip

Senator Ali Ndume, a legislator from Borno South, turned down the opportunity to lead the Senate Committee on Tourism on Friday.

About 48 hours after losing his position as Senate Chief Whip, Ndume made the announcement at his country house in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

According to ZINGTIE, Ndume’s removal as Senate Chief Whip followed his criticism of President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting to his expulsion, the congressman stated that, in light of the discourse that infuriated his colleagues, he did not think his actions justified the punishment.

He claimed he didn’t have the knowledge or exposure to chair such a delicate committee, which is why he turned down the opportunity to lead the Senate Committee on Tourism.

Ndume asserted that, having led the campaigns that resulted in Godswill Akpabio being the Senate President, he was granted the opportunity to select the committee on which to serve as vice chairman.

The senator, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), denied rumours that he will leave the party.

He claimed to have been one of the 22 PDP senators that joined forces to form the APC while Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s current national chairman, was Kano State’s deputy governor.
