Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has named the spokesperson of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission as the head of the state’s electricity regulatory body.
The appointment followed the governor’s decision to set up the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission, alongside the selection of their respective chairmen.
The establishment of the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) and the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GIDTEC) is intended to enhance regulatory oversight, encourage innovation, and fast-track economic development within the state.
The approval was disclosed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, after the governor signed into law the bills creating both commissions, thereby granting them the legal mandate to begin full operations.
As part of the approvals, Governor Yahaya appointed Dr. Usman Abba Arabi, the General Manager of the Public Affairs Department at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), as Chairman of GOSERC.
Dr. Al-Amin Umar Barambu was also named as the Chairman of GIDTEC.
According to the governor, the appointed individuals have the relevant knowledge, skills, and professional background needed to successfully implement the objectives of the newly established agencies.
He noted that the creation of GOSERC is in line with his administration’s power sector reform strategy, particularly in leveraging provisions of the Electricity Act to improve regulation, enhance service delivery, attract private investment, and increase access to stable electricity across Gombe State.
In the same vein, the formation of GIDTEC reflects the government’s resolve to develop a digitally competitive and technology-driven economy, with emphasis on ICT growth, digital innovation, capacity building, e-governance, and employment opportunities for young people.
Governor Yahaya charged the new chairmen to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment in building effective, responsive, and performance-focused institutions that will positively impact residents of the state.
The appointments are scheduled to take effect from January 2, 2026.
