A new coalition of political players and groups has arisen in Benue State, promising to challenge the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s long-standing supremacy in the general elections of 2027. This represents a significant political upheaval in the state.

Over the weekend, the coalition—which consists of stakeholders from all over the Benue South Senatorial District—met at Haggi Suite in Otukpo to explore the creation of a powerful third-force movement that would reshape the state’s political environment.

Former Benue State PDP Chairman, Chief John Ngbede delivered a harsh assessment of the PDP’s current situation, calling it “decayed and hijacked by selfish interests.” He bemoaned the fact that the party no longer represented the people’s goals as a whole.

“The PDP has been taken over by individuals who build barriers instead of bridges. They have imported poverty and division into our communities. It’s time to unite under a new coalition that will restore hope,” Ngbede declared.

All nine Benue South local government areas—Agatu, Ado, Ogbadibo, Ohimini, Otukpo, Okpokwu, Oju, and Obi—support the newly formed coalition.

Chief John Ngbede, Hon. David Olofu, Prof. David Salifu, Chief Chris Adaba Abah, Alhaji Audu Sule, Chief Abba Adaudu, Rt. Hon. Abu Umoru, Rt. Hon. Abu Edor, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, and Mrs. Abeje Egwa were among the important individuals that attended the meeting.

Hon. David Olofu, a former Benue State Commissioner for Finance, also spoke at the event and blasted the current administration for failing to address the persistent lack of infrastructure in rural regions, which he claimed had increased poverty and insecurity.

“Any government that fails to invest in rural infrastructure fails its people. Insecurity thrives where there is abandonment. That’s why our people are desperate for an alternative platform, one that prioritizes dignity, safety, and sustainable development,” he said.
