The United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee has threatened to hold the Nigerian government accountable for failing to safeguard its citizens from terrorism.

Chairman of the committee,Senator Jim Risch made the remark in a post on the Committee’s verified X handle.

According to him, the Nigerian government has failed to safeguard youngsters from the Islamist terrorists spreading mayhem in several regions of the country.

He said, “Nigeria has long failed to protect its schoolchildren from jihadist and criminal abductions, and little has changed. Students, especially girls, remain targets for enslavement, conversion, and ransom.

“As the U.S. engages the Nigerian government on the persecution of its most vulnerable citizens, we will continue to hold them accountable”.

This is happening roughly 48 hours after about 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped by terrorists from a government institution in Kebby State.

The terrorists had on Monday raided the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, GGCSS, Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebby State, assassinated the principal and spirited the schoolgirls away to unknown location.
